Bodywork Methods
Myofascial Release, Shiatsu, and Swedish are the primary techniques administered in your massage session. Also employed are Trager and Passive and Active Stretching according to your individual needs.
The goals are to relax the deeper layers and restore your range of motion, so that you can successfully accomplish the things in life that are important to you.
Myofascial Release
This hands-on technique involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion that occur after after injuries, chronic contraction of the muscles due to stress or repetitive contractions. This essential “time element” has to do with the viscous flow and the piezoelectric phenomenon: a gentle pressure applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate. It is often during this technique that trigger points are located. Connective tissue includes tendons, ligaments, cartilage, fascia, periosteum, joint capsules and the surface linings of the organs and vessels in the body.
Shiatsu
Shiatsu centers on restoring balance in the meridians and organs in order to promote self-healing. With the client reclining, the practitioner applies pressure with the finger, thumb, palm, elbow, or knee to specific zones on the skin located along the energy meridians. The treatment brings about a sense of relaxation while stimulating blood and lymphatic flow. The benefits of this treatment may include increased mobility, pain relief and a strengthening of the body’s resistance to disease and disorder. The relaxed state of the giver actually makes it more effective and more comfortable for the receiver.

Referred Pain
You are encouraged during or after your massage to communicate when you experience relief, as well as sensations, such as tingling or temperature change, at the area of concern or in another area. For example, it is common to feel tingling in the opposite leg that is being massaged, and in the lower arm while massaging the shoulder. Referred pain is the process of restoring connection, and that is very positive, because correcting habitual patterns and restoring natural paths of circulation that once were blocked is key to pain relief.
